Thickening and hardening of the arteries or arteriosclerosis begins with small changes in the arterial wall that looks like a sore or small ulcer. This is then followed by a growth of the connective tissue surrounding it with deposit of calcium salts. This gradually narrows the the inside of the arteries hence retarding the smooth flow of blood. Also the arteries begin to harden and loses the inherent elasticity.
The eventual end results could be a combination of problems: thrombosis and cerebral hemorrhage, heart disease (dilation of the heart),heart attack and nephritis i.e. hardening of blood vessels in the kidneys.
Arteriolsclerosis are caused by:
1) A diet high in animal fats.
2) Nicotine from cigarette that tends to narrow the arteries.
3) A diet high in animal protein, eggs and cheese.
4) Alcohol.
